Beloved Children's Classics and a New Favorite Come to Life

      Enjoy a summer filled with delightful entertainment in Mainstage Center for the Arts’ 31^st season featuring High School Musical, Jr.; Cinderella; Frozen, Jr.; School House Rock, Jr.; and a community theatre production of the Broadway hit, The Drowsy Chaperone. The season is sponsored by AP Construction and William Penn Bank.

The performances kick off July 10-12 with High School Musical, Jr. where the kids from East High navigate their way through the second half of the year – musicals, basketball, scholastic decathlon, and relationships until the last day of school and “Summertime.” High School Musical, Jr. is sponsored by 1^st Colonial Community Bank, Bowman & Co, and Ryan Banksy Expert Tree Service. 

Then a princess in the making meets her prince charming in Cinderella, July 17-19, sponsored by the Bank of Princeton, The Meadows Diner, and the Lamp Post Diner.  

Next, sister princesses Elsa and Anna discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood in Frozen, Jr., July 24-26, sponsored by the Lamp Post Dinner,Meadows Diner, Precision Power Wash, Republic Bank, and McGuinness Funeral home. 

The Children’s Theatre season ends with the iconic stories from the Saturday-morning cartoon pop culture phenomenon, School House Rock, Live! Jr., July 31 – August 1. School House Rock, Live! Jr. is sponsored by Ocean First Bank, Two Two Creative, and Precision Powerwash.

“What an enchanting Children’s Theatre season we have planned. Little ones will be mesmerized by the magic of Cinderella and Frozen, Jr. while audiences will find themselves singing along with the songs from High School Musical, Jr. and School House Rock, Live! Jr,” said Anne Marie Weaver, Mainstage Director of Special Projects.

Along with the Children’s Theatre season, Mainstage presents its community theatre production, The Drowsy Chaperone, July 20, 21, 26, and 27, sponsored by William Penn Bank. Winner of five Tony Awards, this show within a show features a Broadway fan listening to his favorite recording of a 1928 musical. The music comes to life mixing in a couple on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, gangsters posing as pastry chefs, and more to create an evening of madcap delight!

In addition, the youngest Summer Stage participants, Broadway Babies (entering kindergarten and first grade), Musical Theatre KIDZ (entering second and third grades) and Apprentice (entering fourth and fifth grades) also receive the opportunity to perform. Apprentice campers will present an original musical revue based on a special family trip on Sunday, August 4, 7 pm. 

Broadway Babies and Musical Theatre Kidz will present musical revues on July 14 and August 3, both at 2 pm. Finally, the Video Film Production students will present their own original short films in a Film Premier, Friday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m. 

        

Ticket prices for the Children’s Theatre productions are $11 for senior citizens/students and $12 for adults. While tickets for The Drowsy Chaperone, are $15 senior citizens/students and $18 for adults. Group rates are available. All productions take place in Camden County College’s Dennis Flyer Theatre.
